Merging, Splitting, and Deleting Sentences

Occasionally, sentences may be too long or too short and appear awkward in length as a subtitle. Thankfully, you have the option to split and merge sentences to achieve the subtitle length you desire. You may also delete a sentence or multiple sentences from the transcription and this will be reflected in the video as well. To see how exactly it is reflected please refer to the preview on the right, it will give you an idea of how your video will look and sound. Remember, only deleting sentences will change the video voice itself, merging and splitting only affect how the subtitles appear in your video.

Merging Sentences Together

In your project, the current sentence may be too short to serve as a subtitle alone and you may want to add one or more sentence(s) to it.

To merge two or more sentences together, begin by simply highlighting the sentences you would like to be merged by pressing and holding your cursor and dragging it over the sentences of interest.

Then click the 'Merge' option at the top left of the screen and the sentences will be merged together both on the transcript and the video.

Splitting Sentences Apart

You may also have sentences in your transcription that are far too long to be appropriate for subtitles. For example, this subtitle covers most of the screen and may need to be split.

You can split sentences apart at any point you would like. To begin, click on the word right before where you would like the split to happen. In other words, the split will occur directly after the word you click on.

Then click the 'Split' option at the top left and the sentence will be split and the change will be reflected in the video preview as well.

Though it does not appear as though much has changed, the sentences have indeed been split. This is more apparent in the video preview.

Deleting Sentences

To delete sentences, highlight the sentence(s) you would like to delete by pressing and holding your cursor and then dragging over the sentence(s) you would like to be deleted. It should look similar to this:

Then, simply click on the delete option at the top and the highlighted sentence(s) will be removed. Once a sentence is removed, it will no longer appear or be heard in the video. Meaning if you delete the sentence, "President Obama is a tall man," from your transcription, then that sentence will not appear in the video nor will it be heard in the voice any longer.
