Melodie is registering its music catalogue with YouTube Content ID on 1 September 2026. YouTube may automatically scan videos (Including Shorts) that contain Melodie music after that date.
Your use of Melodie music through Pictory is licensed. Add the correct clearance code to your YouTube video description to help prevent a copyright claim.
Which date matters?
Use the date that you uploaded the video to YouTube. The date you created or downloaded the video from Pictory does not determine which instructions apply.
YouTube upload date | What to do |
On or before 31 August 2026 | Add the Pictory Legacy Clearance Code to the description of your video on YouTube: Check your email for the code sent by Pictory or contact support. |
On or after 1 September 2026 | Add the single-use clearance code provided by Pictory. |
A video created in Pictory before 1 September 2026 but uploaded to YouTube on or after 1 September 2026 follows the post-launch instructions.
Add the Legacy Code to an existing video
Use these steps for every published YouTube video and shorts uploaded by 31 August 2026 that contains Melodie music.
Open YouTube Studio.
Select Content.
Select the video that contains Melodie music.
Paste the Legacy Clearance Code anywhere in the Description field. A separate line at the bottom is easiest.
Check your email for the code sent by Pictory or contact support.
5. Select Save.
You do not need to re-upload the video or change its visibility. Leave the Legacy Code in the description permanently.
The Legacy Code covers qualifying videos uploaded during Pictory's Melodie coverage window, ending 31 August 2026. It does not cover videos uploaded after that window.
If you have lots of videos or are unsure which ones to modify, you can easily insert the code into all of them in YouTube Studio using the bulk edit feature:
Sign in to YouTube Studio.
From the left menu, select Content.
Check the Select all box at the top of your video list. If you have more than 30 videos, click Select all again to include every video on your channel.
Select Edit from the top bar, then choose Description.
You can then choose to Insert at end and type your code into the text box.

Clear a video or shorts uploaded from 1 September 2026 onward
Use the single-use clearance code that Pictory provides for the video when you generate the video for download.
Copy the code provided by Pictory.
Paste it into the YouTube video description before publishing.
Publish the video.
Each single-use code clears one video and expires seven days after it is generated. Generate or request the code close to the time you publish the video. Do not reuse a code after it has been used or has expired.
Re-uploaded videos
A re-uploaded video has a new YouTube upload date. If you re-upload a video after 31 August 2026, use a post-launch single-use clearance code. The Legacy Code for the original upload does not cover the new upload.
Videos without Melodie music
You do not need to take action for a video that does not contain music from the Melodie library.
If you are unsure whether a video uses Melodie music, adding the relevant code is harmless. Use the code that matches the video's YouTube upload date.

Frequently asked questions
Will adding a code change my video?
No. The code only helps YouTube identify the Melodie music as licensed. It does not change the video's visibility, monetisation settings, analytics, or content.
Do I need to re-upload my existing video?
No. Edit the description and save the video.
Can I use the Legacy Code for a new upload?
No. The Legacy Code is limited to videos uploaded till 31 August 2026. Use a new single-use clearance code or a whitelisted channel for later uploads.
Can I share my single-use code with someone else?
Do not share it. The first video that uses the code consumes it.
Can I remove the code later?
Leave the code in the description permanently. This keeps the clearance information available to YouTube.
What if I generated the video before 1 September but uploaded it later?
Use the post-launch instructions. YouTube uses the upload date, not the Pictory generation date.
What if I deleted and re-uploaded a video?
Use the instructions for the new upload date. A re-uploaded video receives a new upload date.
