In this guide, we’ll show you how to record a video using Pictory easily.

1. On the homepage, click the ‘Record’ button on the journeys navigation menu.

2. You’ll be prompted to select one of three options: Webcam, Screen & webcam, or Screen only.

3. Click on your preferred option and then select ‘Proceed’.

  • Tip: If you choose the wrong option, don’t worry! You can change the layout before starting the recording.

4. If this is your first time recording on Pictory, you’ll need to grant access to your camera and microphone through your browser.

5. If you have selected an option that includes screen recording, you will be prompted to choose which screen you wish to record.

  • You can select the specific tab or window you want to capture. You can select 'Entire screen' to capture the whole screen on your device.

6. Click the settings icon below to choose from available cameras and microphones connected to your device.

  • Note: Set your preferences before starting, as you can’t switch devices mid-recording.

7. Once everything is set, click the red ‘Record’ button at the bottom center. A 3-second countdown will begin, giving you time to prepare.

8. During the recording, a timer at the top of the preview screen will show the elapsed time.

9. Use the controls at the bottom to pause or retake the recording.

  • Caution: Retaking or pressing the back button deletes the current recording. You will see a pop-up asking for confirmation so only do this if you’re sure you want to start over.

  • Pausing the recording will only keep it paused as long as the tab is active. If you close the tab, whatever has been recorded will be lost.

10. When you're finished, click the red ‘Stop’ button to stop the recording.

  • You will get to the screen where your recording will be saved. Please wait for it to be saved. Your recording will be lost if you close this tab before saving is done.

11. Once saved, your recording will appear on the video page, where you can preview/play your video to review it.

12. At this point, your recorded video is saved as a project on your account. You can safely close the window and access the video from the ‘Projects’ page later.

13. You can retake, edit, download, delete, or share the preview link on this page.

Once you are in the editor, you can explore additional customization options. For more details, check out this article on how to edit your videos with AI.
