If you've been facing issues with slowness and poor performance while working on the storyboard on Pictory, here are three things you can do to improve the performance for a smoother workflow.
Step 1: Check if graphics acceleration is enabled.
Since Pictory is a browser-based app optimized for Chrome, enabling graphics acceleration ensures a smoother experience. By default, Chrome has this enabled. If it’s disabled or you want to check, follow these steps:
Open Chrome and click on the Menu (three vertical dots in the top-right corner).
Select Settings from the dropdown menu.
Scroll down and click on System in the left-hand panel.
Toggle on Use hardware acceleration when available.
Click Relaunch to apply the changes.
Chrome will reopen previously open tabs after relaunching. Pictory automatically saves your progress, so you don’t need to worry about losing work when enabling hardware acceleration.
If step 1 is done but are still experiencing issues, proceed to step 2.
Step 2: Check if you have a GPU or update your GPU
A Graphics Processing Unit (GPU) helps with smooth performance in browser-based applications like Pictory. If your device does not have a GPU or if it is outdated, you may experience slow performance. Here’s how to check your GPU:
For Windows users:
Press Win + R to open the Run dialog box.
Type dxdiag and press Enter.
In the DirectX Diagnostic Tool, click on the Display tab.
Under the Device section, look for the Name field, this is your GPU.
If you do not see a dedicated GPU listed, your system may only be using an integrated graphics processor, which may not be as powerful as devices with a dedicated GPU for better performance.
For Mac users:
Click on the Apple menu in the top-left corner.
Select About This Mac. --> More Info
Click the System Report button
Under the Hardware tab, look for Graphics, this will display your GPU model.
If you’re using an older Mac or one with integrated graphics, performance may be limited compared to Macs with dedicated GPUs.
If you have a GPU but are still experiencing issues, proceed to step 3.
Step 3: Check if your graphic card drivers are updated
Outdated graphics drivers can significantly impact performance. Updating your drivers ensures that your GPU runs efficiently, providing better speed and performance while working on Pictory. Here's how to update your GPU drivers:
For Windows users:
Press Win + X and select Device Manager.
Expand the Display adapters section.
Right-click on your GPU and select Update driver.
Choose Search automatically for drivers. Windows will check for and install any available updates.
Restart your computer to apply the updates.
For Mac users:
MacOS handles graphics driver updates automatically through system updates. To ensure your drivers are up to date:
Click on the Apple menu and select System Settings (or System Preferences on older versions of macOS).
Go to Software Update.
If an update is available, click Update Now to install the latest macOS version, which includes GPU driver updates.
By following these steps, you should experience a smoother and faster workflow while working on Pictory's storyboard.
